Growing in Discipleship

St. Luke's mission is "Making and Maturing Disciples for Ministry and Mission."  "Disciple" is the focal point of our ministry.  What does it mean to be a Disciple?  A disciple is not so much a student as he or she is a follower--a follower of one person--Jesus Christ.  A disciple is one who responds in faith and obedience to the gracious call of Jesus Christ.  Being a disciple is a life-long process of dying to self while allowing Jesus Christ to come alive in us.

"Growing in Discipleship" is a  journey of transforming our lives to the likeness of Christ. On this journey, we discover there is a difference between being a member and being a disciple, between knowing Christ and being committed to Christ, between practicing a solitary faith and belonging in the "community of faith" with other devoted Christians.

St. Luke regularly offers opportunities to learn and grow together in our walk as disciples of Christ.  The Growing In Discipleship series includes:

Discipleship 101: Discovering Membership in Christ's Body
Knowing Christ, both in a personal relationship and in His community of faith.  At this stage in discipleship, a person makes a commitment to membership in the Body of Christ.

Discipleship 201: Discovering Spiritual Maturity
Growing in Christ. At this stage in discipleship, a Christian makes a commitment to strive for spiritual maturity in their day to day walk.

Discipleship 301: Discovering My SHAPE for Ministry
Serving Christ.  A maturing disciple makes a commitment to discover and develop their spiritual gifts for a personal ministry to others.

Discipleship 401: Discovering My Life Mission
Sharing Christ. A ministering disciple makes a commitment to share Christ with others through a personal life mission.

The Growing in Discipleship classes are offered on a rotating basis, usually on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour from 9:30-10:30.  If you would like more information, contact the church office (724-352-2777).
