If you are considering beginning a counseling relationship with me, I want you to feel comfortable about who I am and my professional background and training. My name is Carl Baughman. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been counseling individuals and couples for 35 years. I treat the whole person—body, mind and soul, and believe that for real, deep change to occur the spiritual aspects have to be integrated into the therapeutic process.
I believe that observing one’s past often brings insight into the present and I encourage clients to explore where their difficulties began. I enjoy witnessing positive outcomes from clients who are willing to work hard and be honest to better understand themselves and enact the change they are seeking.
I obtained my undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University and a Master of Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary. I also have a Master's in Counseling from Wright State University and I was a resident in a two-year residency for pastoral counseling and marriage and family therapy. I’ve participated in post graduate studies at various universities of higher learning and I continue to attend numerous continuing events in order to stay abreast of the latest research.
I am a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists as well as an ordained minister. I’ve directed several counseling centers, the latest being the Samaritan Counseling Center of Western PA. I retired as the Executive Director of this center after 24 years in 2017. I am married and my wife and I have two adult sons.
